LaVerne Krei Memorial Scholarship
Named for SADA's founder, the LaVerne Krei Memorial Scholarship is awarded to dancers from throughout the Sacramento area. A scholarship is awarded on merit as applicants must complete a series of auditions to display their skills as worthy of a scholarship. The scholarships are open to ages 12 to 21 and are not dependent upon financial need. This page contains the official entry form, information on the audition process, as well as a list of past scholarship recipients.
LaVerne Jeanette Krei (1922-1997)
Laverne Krei's many dance achievements included dancing with the San Francisco Ballet, choreographing for the Miss America Preliminary pageants, and being honored for many others by "Who's Who of Tap Dance" in Northern California. She owned and operated many dance studios in the Sacramento area, most recently "Krei-Matthews Dance Studio" with her partner, Rita Matthews. She prepared many young people for professional careers.
Ms. Krei was the founding member of the Sacramento Area Dance Alliance - Studio Owner's Branch. "SADA Showcase" is the realization of the dream she had to see all of us working together to provide quality dance education in our area. To honor her, the Sacramento Area Dance Alliance (SADA) will be giving the "Laverne Krei Memorial Scholarship". (The proceeds from the "SADA Showcase" performance will benefit that fund.)
Laverne Krei was an inspiration to her students as well as to her fellow dance instructors and studio owners. The "SADA Showcase" is lovingly dedicated to her memory.
